Artistics Aesthetics Natural Body Care: investing in your healthy, glowing skin

Artistics Natural Body Care is an all-natural skin care line catered towards melanin skin. By all-natural, I mean au naturale– no fillers, alcohols, preservatives, etc. Every single ingredient is listed on the label, and has a purpose to help meet your skin goals. You may be wondering- What’s the issue with preservatives and alcohols? Well, for one, they can actually cause your skin to clog more, increase inflammation, dry out the skin and limit the skin’s natural healing processes. In more extreme cases, these synthetic materials can cause allergies, respiratory distress, and kidney damage. You can read more about that here.

The owner of Artistics Natural Body Care (@artisticsnaturalbodycare) is Rubi D (@rubidartistry) who created her skin care line with her clients in mind. She’s been perfecting her craft since 2015 working to cultivate a product that was both luxurious and affordable.

“Artistics Natural Body Care was birthed because I wanted to use natural skincare products that were both luxurious and affordable for my clients. The company opened in October 2015, offering products for men and women. In 2018, I closed the company to transition a few things, and now, a year later, we’re back!” – Rubi D

Now, let’s get into this skin care line. At the time of my purchase, Rubi was offering a special price for the set: $25 for a 30 (or more) day supply. The normal price for the kit is $50, or $15.99 for the individual products. I was definitely in the market to try a different facial cleanser so when I saw her Instagram post about a focus group for products targeting hyper-pigmentation, I jumped at the opportunity.

There are 4 products in this kit: the Turmeric and Honey Oil Facial Cleanser, the Detox Facial Scrub, the Lemon and Honey Toner, and the Aloe Skin Silk Moisturizer. For all of them, a little bit of product goes a long way!

The facial cleanser has 5 ingredients: raw honey, coconut oil, turmeric powder, cinnamon powder, and rose hip oil. I use this product 1-2 times each day. (Be sure to shake it well!)

  • Raw honey not only contains vitamins and enzymes, but it also helps reduce breakouts and scars, moisturizes and heals skin, works as an antiseptic, and fights allergies & rashes. (Fun Fact: Raw honey can be used as a dressing on wounds and burns!)
  • Coconut oil doubles as a strengthener and a protector: it helps build epidermal tissue, remove dead skin cells, and protect the skin from the sun while being antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal and antioxidant.
  • Turmeric powder is also anti-inflammatory and contains antioxidants. It revives skin and brings out natural luster and glow.
  • Cinnamon is a natural antioxidant and is actually toxic to cancer cells. It treats acne by acting as an antibacterial agent and improves blood circulation to the skin. (Increased blood circulation= healthier, faster healing skin) The cinnamon in this cleanser definitely gives me “apple pie” vibes in the shower!
  • Rose Hip Oil helps reduce scars and fine lines. It’s rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants that fight blemishes and hyper-pigmentation.

The detox facial scrub is an exfoliator that contains sugar, coconut oil, raw honey, ground coffee*, and activated charcoal. I’ve used it alone, as well as mixed it with the oil cleanser to create a mask. I use this product 2-3 times a week.

  • Sugar works as a physical exfoliator: it sloughs off the top, dull layer of skin, revealing newer, brighter skin. It also helps unclog pores.
  • Raw honey not only contains vitamins and enzymes, but it also helps reduce breakouts and scars, moisturizes and heals skin, works as an antiseptic, and fights allergies & rashes.
  • Coconut oil doubles as a strengthener and a protector: it helps build epidermal tissue, remove dead skin cells, and protect the skin from the sun while being antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal and antioxidant.
  • Coffee acts as a natural exfoliator, stimulates blood flow to the skin, targets free radicals, and maintains skin’s (naturally acidic ) pH balance. (*I have a hypersensitivity/ allergy to moderate levels of caffeine, so I communicated that to Rubi before buying the product. She created my product without the coffee.)
  • Activated charcoal draws bacteria, dirt, toxins, chemicals, and other particles out of the skin to be washed away.

The Lemon and Honey Toner is used after the skin has been cleaned. It contains Aloe Vera juice, Distilled water, Apple Cider Vinegar, Lemon Oil, and Honey. Sometimes I apply it with a cotton pad, and sometimes I just spray the toner and massage the goodness into my skin (with clean hands, of course!). I use toner in the morning, after removing makeup before the gym, and at night after showering.

  • Aloe Vera detoxes, soothes, and keeps bacteria off of the skin. It heals burns, including sunburn, and fights redness and itching.
  • Distilled water has a pH that is close to skin (5.5-6.5) and also helps to re-hydrate the skin.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar kills pathogens (like bacteria and fungus) and cleans the skin.
  • Lemon Oil is a natural astringent and works to restore the luster to dull skin. It’s anti-bacterial, like many of the other ingredients in this set. It also balances the natural oils in your skin, to reduce oiliness.  (Fun fact: lemon oil can be used in a diffuser to help relieve mental fatigue, exhaustion, dizziness, anxiety, and nervous tension.)
  • Raw honey not only contains vitamins and enzymes, but it also helps reduce breakouts and scars, moisturizes and heals skin, works as an antiseptic, and fights allergies & rashes.

Last but certainly not least, the moisturizer. Appropriately named, the Aloe Skin Silk Moisturizer contains Aloe Vera Juice, Distilled Water, Coconut Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Black Seed Oil, Emulsifying Wax, Stearic Acid, and Lemon Essential Oil. I use this before bed and on days I don’t wear makeup. I wanna bathe in this stuff: it makes my skin feel amazing after I clean it! It’s not a heavy product, but it makes your skin super supple and glowy.

  • Hemp Seed Oil has anti-aging properties, contains antioxidants, balances oil production, moisturizes, and soothes irritation. (Although widely disputed, hemp seed oil is made from cold-pressed hemp seeds and does not contain any THC.)
  • Black Seed Oil is full of vitamins A, C & E and works to lighten and brighten your complexion. This oil can also be ingested internally for immune support and to fight infections. You can read more about the benefits of Black Seed Oil here.
  • Emulsifying Wax is added to bind the oil and water based products so that the moisturizer has a smooth, creamy consistency.
  • Stearic acid is a naturally occurring fatty acid found in various plants and animal derivatives. (It’s found in things like animal tallow, cocoa butter and vegetable fats.) Not only does it help the moisturizer maintain its shape, it mixes with the oils and dirt on the surface of your skin so that it can be washed away later.
  • Lemon Oil is a natural astringent and works to restore the luster to dull skin. It’s anti-bacterial, like many of the other ingredients in this set. It also balances the natural oils in your skin, to reduce oiliness.
